FAQs

What are the tests needed for PrEP?

Answer

Before you can safely prescribe PrEP the following tests need to be completed at your pathology clinic.

  • HIV status - required to be eligible to access PrEP via the subsided price through the PBS
  • Kidney function - to ensure you kidney function is normal. In some cases PrEP can effect your kidneys if they levels are not normal
  • STI screen

The STI screen includes:

  • Chlamydia (throat, rectal and urine)
  • Gonorrhoea (throat, rectal and urine)
  • Syphilis
  • Hepatitis B & C

If you do test positive for a STI it wont stop you from being prescribed PrEP - your Hey Fella doctor will get in contact and arrange treatment for your STI.
