What is PrEP Medication

PREP (pre exposure prophylaxis prep) medication refers to pre exposure prophylaxis for HIV and is an antiretroviral medication that is taken to prevent HIV infection. PREP is typically taken by gay men, men who have sex with men, or those who have a higher risk of acquiring HIV typically through sexual activity. You must be HIV-negative (have no viral load).

PREP typically contains two drugs, Emtricitabine and Tenofovir which work together to block HIV replicating, preventing infection.

PREP is prescribed by doctors or sexual health clinics and is available in Australia via the pharmaceutical benefits scheme PBS for those who have a Medicare card.

Prep is generally a safe drug however does have some side effects if you do not have healthy kidneys.

PREP is different to pep post exposure prophylaxis which is taken after a possible exposure to HIV if you are not taking PREP.

You can take PREP two ways: on demand which is taken for planned sexual events or daily which is more suited for spontaneous sexual events.

Getting PrEP online

Accessing PREP medication online is a convenient and discreet option for those who want to protect themselves against HIV. With just a few clicks, you can access PREP through Hey Fella which connects you with Australian doctors who can prescribe PREP. This eliminates the need for time-consuming visits to a physical clinic and allows you to take control of your sexual health from the comfort of your own home.

To begin the process, you simply request online, provide your medical history and book an appointment. Your medical information helps the doctor assess your eligibility for PREP and ensure that it is the right choice for you. Rest assured, all your personal details are kept confidential and secure.

Your doctor will request you complete a health check which includes blood tests. This checks your kidney function as well as your HIV status.

Once the doctor reviews your results with you, they will determine if PREP is suitable for you and issue a prescription if appropriate. The prescription can be dispensed at any pharmacy or online pharmacies.

It's important to note that while PREP is highly effective in preventing HIV transmission, it does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Therefore, it is recommended to use additional barrier methods, such as condoms, to reduce the risk of contracting STIs and regular STI testing is recommended.

Regular follow-up consultations with the online doctor are also available to monitor your progress and address any concerns or questions you may have. This ongoing support ensures that you receive the necessary guidance and information to maintain your sexual health.

Remember, PREP is most effective when taken consistently and as prescribed. You can either take It daily or on demand which starts hours before sex (2 pills 24 hours before sex). It is crucial to adhere to the recommended dosage and follow the doctor's instructions closely. By taking this proactive step, you can significantly reduce the risk of HIV infection and enjoy a worry-free sexual life.

In conclusion, obtaining PREP medication online offers a convenient and accessible way to protect yourself against HIV. With the guidance of doctors and the ease of online platforms, you can take charge of your sexual health with confidence and peace of mind. Don't let barriers stand in the way of your well-being – take the first step towards a safer future today.
